Cat on Green

At the Humane Society of Davie County, second chances are our first priority!

NC is the SECOND highest state for euthanasia in the country. Yes, you read that right, SECOND! We are committed more than ever in lowering the euthanasia rate in NC. One way to accomplish this is helping dogs and cats find loving homes that have nowhere else to turn.

Adding a new pet is a major commitment and should not be taken lightly. Dogs and cats are family right from the start of being adopted. Some settle right in and you never even know they were not part of your family. Others, have had rough starts in life and need patient, kind, and compassionate families to allow them to learn trust and love for the first time for some and settle in at their pace.

When you’re ready to add a pet to your family, please check out our adoptable animals. Also, if you’re looking for certain characteristics in your next best friend, let us know. We may know of a local rescue or shelter with just what you need.

How to Adopt?

Once you find the pet you’re interested in, click on the animal’s picture to complete an adoption application

(We recommend applications be filled out on a desktop PC or laptop. Applications submitted through a mobile device do not always come through.)

Once you have applied online, our adoptions team will reach out to discuss any questions you may have. We review your application and discuss details about what you’ll need to prepare for your new addition.

We try to provide as much information about a pet’s personality, needs, or medical history in their profile, but we will go more in depth and review his/her medical history, vaccinations, microchip, spay/neuter surgery, and any other behavioral needs.

We’re happy to help answer any questions you may have about training, veterinary care, nutrition, grooming, or anything else related to your new pet.

HSDC requires that all adopted animals must be spayed or neutered as a condition of adoption
